Despite tough sky conditions and a rather cold March, the Kopernik Astro Society had a great month. The following links highlight the month for the group:
- AstroFest 2011 planning continues with a unprecedented KAS event upcoming. The AstroFest 2011 committee has done a great job! More details coming forth.
- A small group of the KAS gathered at the observatory on March 16th for the first ever KAS Presentation night. The topic discussed was related to Solar Astronomy and Observation techniques. We also greeted our newest potential KAS member and gave him a tour of the facility. A truly great night for all! Look for the April event, mentioned below…
- A few KAS members trekked to the Corning Museum of Glass to watch and meet Palomar Observatory professional astronomer, Scott Kardel. A great talk and guest, and looking forward to the full review from the KAS members who participated.
- The KAS volunteered to support over 10 public outreach, educational and student related events at Kopernik Observatory and Science Center. A great hat tipping to all who helped out!
With April comes warmer weather, and hopefully clear skies. But also we’ll also be doing other great things beyond our normal observing.
- On April 16th and 17th, many KAS members will be trekking to the greatest science and technology event in the Northeast. the Northeast Astronomy Forum and Telescope Show (NEAF) – click the NEAF image link on the upper right of this site for more details. If you wish to join or carpool with us, please feel free to contact us.
- On April 20th, there will be a slew of “Come and Join Us” activities going on. Join the KAS at Tully’s Good Times for dinner and a drink with proceeds to benefit Kopernik Observatory. We will be conducting the KAS Montly Presentation Night at Tully’s, so feel free to stop by and check out a small meteorite collection, and an informal chat about meteorites.

- As is part of the KAS mission, there are a whole bunch of events we will be volunteering/supporting at the Observatory.
